Today is kind of Christmas…

It’s technically still Christmas back home in Phoenix, AZ. I’m sure my family is probably either napping from eating too much or playing some sort of video or board game. But me, its the morning of the 26th and I’m sitting in my hotel in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, watching one of the only English channels on television, the TLC channel. Many people would probably be amazed - especially Americans, many of whom don’t even own a passport. And on a normal day, yes, it is quite amazing. But today it’s just sad and lonely. I haven’t even set foot outside my hotel - the weird departure time knocked me into a jetlagged slumber when we landed and I refused to gather any energy to do anything productive.

Don’t get me wrong - KL is beautiful, and the view from my 26th floor hotel room proves just that. But really, sometimes I just wish I could give all of this globetrotting up just to play Rock Band with my family on Christmas day. The 25th is just another day in Malaysia, where Christianity only makes up about 10% of the population. To my Christmas celebrating friends all over the world, I hope you enjoyed your day. Please don’t take your family and friends for granted, one day you might be spending Christmas alone in a hotel room far, far away. :/
